Pink Pyrola (Pyrola asarifolia Michx.)

Identification: Flowers nodding, pink to crimson, with 5 petals. pistil long and curved. Flowers arranged in a terminal spike on the apex of a long, leafless flower stalk. Leaves in a basal rosette. Leaf round, indented at the base. Plant 6 to 15 inches in height.

Distribution: Across Canada and southward to New England, New York, Michigan, and South Dakota. Also in the Rocky Mountains to New Mexico.

Habitat: Pink Pyrola is found in rich woods.

Flowering period: June to August.

Similar Species: The consistently pink flowers and the round leaves with basal indentations are distinctive features of Pink Pyrola.
