Globe Flower (Troillus laxus Salisb.)

Identification: Flowers yellow, butter-cup like, with a slight green tinge, and distributed one to a plant. "Petals" (actually sepals) 5 to 7. Leaves heavily dissected, the upper 2 leaves sessile and embracing the stem. Plant 12 to 20 inches in height.

Distribution: Michigan in the west to southern New England in the east, southward to Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Habitat: Globe Flower is a rare species found in swampy habitats.

Flowering period: April to June.

Similar Species: The large, yellow flowers, the swampy habitat, and the top 2 leaves embracing the stem are characteristic for Globe Flower.
