Three-toothed Cinquefoil (Sibbaldia tridentata [Ait.] Rydb.)

Identification: Flowers white with 5 broad petals and numerous yellow stamens. Sepals narrow, pointed and projecting between the petals. Flowers in a much branched cluster at the apex of the plant or its branches. Leaves compound, each leaflet narrow with smooth outer margins except for 3 coarse teeth at the apex of the leaflet. Plant 2 to 10 inches in height.

Distribution: Canada from Greenland to Manitoba. Southward in the east to New Jersey.

Habitat: Three-toothed Cinquefoil is found on open, acid woods and in rocky soils.

Flowering period: June to August.

Similar Species: The white, strawberry-like flowers and the uniquely shaped leaves easily identify this species.
