Rough-fruited Cinquefoil (Potentilla recta L.)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: An erect species. Flowers pale yellow, large, with 5 petals and numerous stamens. Flowers is small clusters at the end of the branches. Stem heavily branched. Leaves compound with 5 to 7 leaflets arranged in a palm-shaped arrangement. Leaflets narrow, with a heavily toothed outer margin. Plant 1 to 2 feet in height.

Distribution: Throughout North America.

Habitat: Rough-fruited Cinquefoil is a species of disturbed habitats including fields, empty lots, and roadsides.

Flowering period: June to August.

Similar Species: The erect stature of this species will separate it from Common Cinquefoil or Dwarf Cinquefoil. The leaves of Silvery Cinquefloil have oak-like lobes and are silvery-wooly below.
