Yellow Wild Licorice (Galium lanceolatum Torr.)

Identification: Flowers small, yellow with 4 petals. Flowers arranged in small clusters arising on long flower stalks from the axils of the leaf whorls. Fruit with recurved hooks. Stem smooth, mostly erect, square. Leaves in whorls of 4, elongate, but broader than in most species of the genus. Plant 1 to 2 feet in height.

Distribution: Minnesota in the west to Quebec and New England in the east, southward to North Carolina and Georgia.

Habitat: Yellow Wild Licorice is a species of dry woods.

Flowering period: June to July.

Similar Species: Yellow Wild Licorice is similar to White Wild Licorice except for the flower color.
