Partridgeberry (Mitchella repens L.)

Identification: Plant creeping, prostrate on the ground. Flowers white to light pink, with a long tubular corolla and 4 free, pointed petal lobes. Flowers arranged in joined pairs at the end of the creeping stem. Fruit a solitary, red berry. Leaves round, with distinct petioles, and in opposite pairs.

Distribution: Throughout eastern North America.

Habitat: Partridgeberry is found in a variety of forest types.

Flowering period: June to July.

Similar Species: Partridgeberry is an easily identified plant when it is in flower.
