Kidney-leaved Violet (Viola renifolia Gray)

Identification: Leaves basal and flower arising from separate stalks. Flower white. Leaves broader than long, finely hairy. Stalks hairy, not smooth. Runners absent.

Distribution: Throughout Canada, southward in the east to Iowa and Pennsylvania. Also occurs in the Rocky Mountain states.

Habitat: Kidney-leaved Violet is found in wet, northern woods or in the mountains further south.

Flowering period: May to June.

Similar Species: The wide, ovate leaves and the absence of runners will separate this species from either Northern White Violet or Sweet White Violet.
