Arrow-leaved Violet (Viola sagittata Ait.)

Identification: Leaves basal, flowers on separate stalks. Flowers violet-blue. Leaves typically elongate, narrow with a number of projecting lobes at the base of the leaf. Early leaves may be heart-shaped.

Distribution: Throughout eastern North America.

Habitat: Arrow-leaved Violet is usually found in open woods, clearings, and fields.

Flowering period: April to June.

Similar Species: The narrow, elongate leaf with projecting lobes at its base is distinctive for this species.
